Rehabilitation Project to begin Sept. 28 in Richland County

The S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces the start of construction on the I-126 eastbound to Huger Street, I-126 eastbound to Elmwood and the Huger Street to I-126 westbound rehabiltation in Richland County.  The purpose of this project, which is part of SCDOT's strategic 10-year plan, is to improve safety, rehabilitate the aging interstate and mend the existing bridge.

This project is part of the $21 million contract awarded to Lane Construction for the Pavement Preservation Program that began in April, 2018, who has proposed an aggressive work schedule.

The following roads will be closed as follows:

  • September 28, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM- I-126 EB to Huger Street
  • September 29, 2018 from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM- I-126 EB to Elmwood Avenue
  • September 30, 2018 from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM- Huger Street to I-126 WB

Motorists are advised to follow information posted on message boards and to follow the posted detours during these times of closures to minimize impacts.

Drivers traveling through the construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times. Let 'em work. Let 'em live.

Motorists can use SCDOT's 511 Traveler system for updates to help make travel decisions.  For more information concerning this project, the public may contact Resident Construction Engineer, Jim Cravens at 803-995-8943 or Jim.cravens@ice-eng.com
