New Bridge to be Built on Matthews Road in Saluda County

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to build a new, modernized bridge to replace the bridge on Matthews Road (S-41-281) over Tributary to Lake Murray in Saluda County.

The new bridge will be wider and safer, with upgraded barrier walls, and will no longer be weight restricted.

SCDOT is replacing replace hundreds of deficient bridges across the state as part of the agency's 10-year Strategic Plan.

The bridge is scheduled to close on May 9, 2022. Pending any delays due to weather or other unforeseen issues, Matthews Road is expected to re-open to traffic approximately September 6, 2022. Local access will be maintained for the properties within the road closure.
