Tony K. Cox, of Horry County, was named Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission at the Commission's January 19, 2023 meeting in Columbia.

“I’m honored to serve again as the Chairman of the Commission,” said Cox. “We’re making tremendous progress on our Strategic 10-Year Plan and we will continue working hard on behalf of the people of South Carolina.” 

Cox, a Commissioner representing the 7th Congressional District, joined the SCDOT Commission in 2017. He has previously served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Commission.

He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a B. A. degree in public administration/real estate and completed the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Advanced Management Development Program.

Cox is a real estate professional with 40 years of experience. He recently retired as the executive vice president at Burroughs and Chapin Co., Inc. in Myrtle Beach.

He is past chairman of the South Carolina Real Estate Commission and a former chairman of the Horry County Planning Commission.
