Memorial Ceremony to honor fallen SCDOT Workers this Friday, April 28

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will hold a ceremony Friday, April 28, 2023, to honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to SCDOT and the state of South Carolina.

The SCDOT Workers Memorial ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in front of SCDOT Headquarters, 955 Park Street, Columbia. This is the location of the SCDOT Workers Memorial wall, which was unveiled in 2018.

Scheduled speakers include Secretary of Transportation Christy A. Hall, P.E. and other SCDOT officials.

The Memorial honors SCDOT employees, dating back to the 1920s, killed while working on the highways as well as those who died on the job from natural causes.

This year's ceremony will add the name of SCDOT Richland Maintenance employee Dennis Moore, who died while performing his duties on August 24, 2022.

The ceremony will be streamed online at scdot.org, and on the SCDOT Facebook page, facebook.com/SCDOT.

Media note: Parking for media is available inside the barricade at Park and College streets.
