New Speed Limits in Place Along I-85 Construction Project

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) continues to enact additional safety measures by lowering speed limits along the I-85 construction zone in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.

SCDOT completed the installation of new speed limit signs along the project corridor and the new speed limits are now in force for the southbound direction.  The speed limit was lowered from 55 mph to 45 mph for the outside southbound lane.  Additionally, the speed limit for the "chute" was lowered to 35 mph in order to slow drivers down even further.    Rumble strips will also be added to the "chute" in the near future as well.

Drivers are urged to slow down, pay attention and stay in the proper lanes through the workzone.  More than 55,000 vehicles, including a high volume of truck traffic, pass through the project site on a daily basis.
