South Main Street traffic shift will begin Streetscape Project

Columbia, S.C. (March 17, 2023) – SCDOT will start the South Main Street Streetscape Project in Columbia on the evening of Sunday, March 19, with the shift of traffic to two lanes on the eastern side of South Main Street, closest to Sumter Street. Traffic will remain open in both directions. All businesses on both sides will remain accessible.

Motorists may expect delays in this area on Monday, March 20, as SCDOT works to relocate stoplights to match the new traffic pattern. Work included in this phase of construction includes relocation of electrical and telecommunication infrastructure, water and sewer improvements, and the construction of all curbs, driveways, drainage structures, and sidewalks on western side of South Main Street, closest to Assembly Street.
