Emergency Repairs to I-85 Southbound in Spartanburg County Require Lane Closures Beginning Today

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces that a lane closure will be installed this afternoon, Friday, April 4, due to several broken concrete slabs in the right lane of southbound I-85 in Spartanburg County.

The outside (right) lane of I-85 Southbound from approximately 1 mile south of SC 9 (MM74) to just north of North Pine Street (MM73) will be closed beginning around 4 p.m. today. Nighttime closures for both right and center lanes can be expected to preform temporary repairs to the center lane.

The repairs to the broken concrete slabs will begin soon and are required to maintain safety of the interstate.

SCDOT estimates repairs to this section of I-85 will be completed and traffic on all lanes reopened by the week of April 14, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to use caution when traveling in the work zone. Southbound through traffic on I-85 is encouraged to use I-85 Business as an alternate route.
